The Greek Revival became an architectural movement in the US in the late nineteenth century.

The style's color palette includes hues of blue, ochre yellow and golden tones. Corinthian columns, painted clay roofing, stucco siding, colorful tiles, and marbled floors are some of the distinct features of the Greek Revival inspired home.

If you would like to incorporate your love of the classic Grecian motif to your modern home, here are a few things to include in your home renovation project.

1. Exterior Columns

Columns are one of the hallmarks of the Grecian style. In American architecture, columns are often used to adorn the entryway. Get creative and look for ways to incorporate columns in other areas of your home. Columns are a great way to jazz up your back porch, pool deck or gazebo.

2. Grand Entryway

Grecian exterior entryways are grand. Consider accenting your door with elaborate trim. Cast plaster ornaments that resemble decorative motifs used in Grecian architecture can give your home just what it needs.

3. Stucco or Fiber Cement Siding

While original Grecian temples were made of limestone and marble, you can achieve the same classic look with stucco or cement siding for a modern touch.

4. Shades of Blue

Santorini is famous for its blue roofs. Create the same effect with blue clay roofing tiles. Add a splash of Grecian blue to your doors and windows. Accent your deck and patio with hues of subtle blue furnitures and planters.

5. Large Windows

In the 1800s Grecian homes featured six-paned, double hung windows welcoming an abundance of natural light. Add exterior shutters to your windows for moderate lighting effects.

6. Natural Lighting

Add skylights to illuminate your tiled kitchen or bathrooms. Let the sunlight into your home to illuminate the colorful Grecian palette during the day, and observe the peaceful sky at night.

8. Reflective Pools and Fountains

Reflecting pools are also a feature common to both Grecian homes and temples. Consider adding a pool or a fountain for peaceful reflection and relaxation, the Greek way.
