Are you experiencing the DIY bug? Every once in a while, people get the urge to improve their surroundings. But when it comes to DIY, it's often best to have simple, discrete projects that you can complete on a structured timeline. Let's take a look at some easy DIY home projects that you can complete, based on the room of your home that you want to renovate.

Entryway

Your entryway has to be inviting, well-organized, and comfortable. Consider creating a dedicated space to organize leaving and entering.

  • Install a coat rack or shelving. Guests will be able to easily put their items away as they enter, and you'll have a place for coats and bags.
  • Place an "organizer" for keys, umbrellas, leashes, and other items. That way, you'll never lose anything again in your home.
  • Don't forget a place for shoes if you take your shoes off in the house. This keeps them tidy and out of the way.

Another variant of the classic entryway is the mudroom. If you have a mudroom, many of these upgrades will also apply!

Kitchen

Your kitchen can be an expensive remodel. But before you redo the entirety of it, consider some minor DIY projects, instead. You may be able to increase the usefulness and attractiveness of your kitchen without getting into too much construction.

  • Install a new kitchen faucet. This is easy to do and can improve the functionality of the room. A long neck faucet or a faucet that pulls out makes it a lot easier to use your kitchen.
  • Replace light fixture covers. Light fixture covers are interchangeable as long as you measure them carefully. Think about updating them for a more modern or classic look, depending on your style.
  • Upgrade your appliances. Appliances are an easy way to solve the "aged kitchen" problem. Get a matching dishwasher, oven, and refrigerator, and you've completely updated.
  • Update your backsplash. Most people can't (and realistically, shouldn't) reinstall their entire countertop. But a backsplash is easy to do. You can update a dated kitchen with a modern backsplash to immediately improve its appearance.

Kitchens are often considered the hearts of the home, especially if they have a dining room or breakfast nook. Pay attention to how comfortable your kitchen is and you can improve the comfort of your home.

Living Room

This is the room that you spend most of your time in. Shouldn't it be comfortable and attractive?

  • Add floating shelves for decor. You can place things off the floor which also expands the space.
  • Mount your television to the wall. This is a really simple upgrade that tends to make homes feel "finished."

Your living room isn't an area you want to do extensive work in yourself, because it's so disruptive. So focus more on these smaller projects rather than long-lasting projects that will have you stepping sideways through your parlor.

Office

Offices need to be based on functionality. You want to be able to sit down and immediately be comfortable and alert. Here are a few of the most important upgrades.

  • Build a DIY ladder shelf. Shelving is a great way to fit everything you need into your office with ease, even if it's small.
  • Go ergonomic. Consider mounting your monitor to the wall on a pull-out bracket, so you can adjust it to the appropriate height.

When you're upgrading your office, think about the things that will make it more effective for work. You'll thank yourself later.

Bedroom

This is your safe haven. It should always be a relaxing retreat. You want to create a sanctuary that gives you peace. Because of that, you want to concentrate on things that make you comfortable.

  • Upgrade the light fixtures with smart bulbs. You can have them come on in the morning to wake you, and set them lower at night to lull you to sleep.
  • Install carpeting. Hard flooring is great in other rooms, but bedrooms usually have softer, warmer flooring to make waking up less uncomfortable.

What's an upgrade you should avoid? Many think entertainment systems don't belong in the bedroom: If you value sleep, keep the TV and speakers out.

Laundry Room

Your laundry room has to be efficient, and often it feels smaller than it really should be. For a laundry room, the major upgrades are:

  • Install built-in shelving and pull out surfaces. You can have a folding surface that pulls out from the wall, for instance.
  • Consider upgrading your appliances. A stackable washer and dryer will give you a lot more space.

If your laundry room is the first room you enter (such as from the garage), it can also double as a mudroom.

Now, those are easy DIY home projects. But sometimes you really need something more in-depth. Exterior Medics is here to help you do more extensive, non-DIY projects, without disrupting your l
