Finding space for all of your items and belongings inside of your home is one thing. Creating space outside is a whole other thing, especially if you have kids. Yes, aside from the garage and perhaps a garden shed, outdoor storage space is at a premium, so you might need to get creative to keep your yard looking neat.

Here are five clever outdoor storage ideas that will add function and aesthetic to your outdoor living space.

Milk Crates On The Fence

Pick up some hooks from the hardware store and use them to secure milk crates to the fence for outdoor kids’ toys. The crates are porous, thereby allowing rainwater to pass through them.

Storage Benches

Storage benches are functional as both a sitting place and as a storage container. They can be placed on decks, patios, front porches or elsewhere in the yard.

Ball Rack

You can either purchase one of these or build your own using wood and bungee cords. Frame the ends using 2 x 2-foot pieces (be sure to put solid plywood on one of the ends) and connect them at the corners using 2 x 4-foot pieces. Then fasten bungee cords to enclose it so the likes of footballs, soccer balls, etc. can be easily removed. This can be secured into a corner of the garage or even fastened to a tree outside.

Wood Pallets

Have an old wood pallet sitting around? You can tip it on its side and either place gardening tools inside of it or add hooks to it and secure said tools that way. Place the pallet in your garden or against a shed to add character to the area.

Below Deck Space

Just like you utilize the crawlspace in your basement, consider utilizing space underneath a wood deck (if applicable) for storage. Add drawers or bins that can be pulled out and secured with ease in this area.

Final Thoughts

Like we said in the opening, outdoor storage space is at a premium in many households. So get creative, have some fun and enjoy a clutter-free yard.
