It's that time of the year again — time to think about all those exceptional things that make you feel thankful. Everyone wants to have a home that they feel thankful for; a soothing respite from the world at large. But though your home may be your sanctuary, there may be little things that you've been waiting to upgrade. Here are a few of the upgrades that may be able to make you even more thankful for your home.

1. Kitchen Remodeling

Kitchen remodeling is one of the best home upgrades if you want to improve your property's value. Kitchens and bathrooms are the first rooms most people look at. If you host large parties or are constantly cooking, a kitchen remodel is a "quality of life" upgrade that will serve you many years into the future. And when it's around the holiday season, you'll notice if there are things you don't like about your kitchen.

Want to go a little smaller than a full remodel? Consider tricks like replacing all your drawer pulls, replacing just your cabinet doors (rather than the cabinets themselves), or replacing the appliances. A few very small kitchen upgrades (such as counters) can radically change the look of your kitchen without costing you an arm and leg.

2. Siding Upgrades

Siding upgrades don't just improve the attractiveness of your home. They also protect your home from the elements. If your old siding has gotten a little antiquated or broken down, new siding upgrades can help. At Exterior Medics, we like to use James Hardie siding — an incredibly durable, long-lasting siding that comes in a vast number of styles and colors

You'd be surprised to find out how much the technology of siding has changed within just the last decade. Today's siding is better insulated, looks nicer, and performs better.

3. Decks or Patios

There's nothing more relaxing than sitting out on your deck or patio during a nice day. Consider the advanced masonry work of Exterior Medics for your next patio or outdoor project. It'll add usable space to the outdoor areas of your home and create a new entertaining area for your friends and family.

4. Landscaping

Does your front yard or backyard need a little love? Landscaping can be difficult to do on your own, but once your landscaping has been completed, it's a lot easier to maintain. You can improve the curb appeal of your property, or the impact of your backyard, with just a few exterior updates.

5. Basement Remodels

Finishing a basement adds square footage to your home — something that always adds value. Your basement could be another bedroom, an office, a gym, or even an entertainment room. If you're tired of using your basement just for storage, this could be a great choice.

6. Window Replacements

Windows are the eyes of the home. A window replacement is a fast, easy way to improve the appearance of your property. Windows can often date a property, so you can update and modernize a home just by changing the windows. And windows are also an area where heat and cold tend to escape: The better insulated your windows are, the better your home efficiency will be. Consider new, insulated, double-paned windows if you're concerned about energy loss.

7. New Flooring

Over time, floors get scuffed and dull, which can make a home look older or dirty. New flooring is a treat to yourself and your property values. Carpeting is frequently the option in "comfort" rooms like bedrooms, but otherwise, hardwood floors, natural stone floors, and tile are all highly desirable. You may be surprised at how different a room can look simply by upgrading the flooring.

8. Door Replacement

Want a big impact without having to spend big money? Replacing your front door is a fast, easy way to completely change the look and feel of your home. Just like windows, today’s doors are better insulated and will save you money over time. Additionally, you can change your garage door to change the overall look of the front of your home. Door replacement is quick, doesn't disrupt anything else on your property, and will be immediately noticeable.

These upgrades range from very affordable to very expensive, but all of them have the potential of increasing your property value. They'll certainly make you feel a little more grateful for your home!
