The last two years have been a whirlwind of excitement for D.C. area sports teams. Between a World Series win this year and a Stanley Cup victory last year, our area has been brimming with the energy that comes from championships and cheering on talented players. Recently, the city of Fredericksburg opened their own facility in Dixon Park where future hockey players can get their start: the Fredericksburg Roller Hockey Rink. To celebrate this venture, the city has partnered with the Washington Capitals to create the first-ever Fredericksburg Spirit Day, giving FXBG fans the chance to show their support and their community spirit.
The Ultimate Fan Experience
On January 5, 2020 at 12:30 pm, the Washington Capitals will take on the San Jose Sharks, and FXBG fans will get the opportunity to attend the game as special guests. The day will begin with donuts, coffee, and hot chocolate at the Dorothy Hart Community Center, where a bus sponsored by Exterior Medics will be waiting to transport fans to the game. Upon arrival at the arena, holders of these special tickets will be able to pick up their included Capitals t-shirt that we hope will rally the Caps to a win. The bus ride home will culminate the fan experience, expected to return to Fredericksburg by 7 pm.
Showing Our Community Pride
When Exterior Medics heard about the opening of the hockey rink, we knew we had to be part of this community outreach initiative. We reached out to city officials, and they offered us the opportunity to help with Fredericksburg Spirit Day by sponsoring the bus ride from FXBG to the Capitol One Arena in D.C. We were more than happy to agree. Not only do we get the joy of interacting with our community in a meaningful way, we will also be featured on a dasher board at the roller-hockey rink at Dixon Park as well as participate in a live, pregame interview that will be aired on the jumbotron in the arena.
The grand opening of the rink took place in early November. Hundreds of Fredericksburg-area residents attended the celebration and got the chance to train in a children’s clinic hosted by the Washington Capitals. During the event, the director of the Fredericksburg Parks and Recreation Department announced the Exterior Medics’ sponsorship, followed shortly after with an official announcement online.
