The exterior of a home is supposed to keep it out, but sometimes water intrusion happens. A drip, a stain, or a bubble may be the only clue that something is not right. Enter our inspector – the Sherlock Holmes of the Exterior Medics team – Larry Prescott. When a leak needs to be identified so it can be repaired, Larry is our go-to sleuth.

How We Do Leaks

After several years at a roofing company doing inspections and site supervision, Larry joined Exterior Medics in 2017. For the past three and a half years, he has been responsible for investigating all leaks – both warranty work and potential jobs where a leak is an issue. He inspects the entire exterior of a structure to determine where the leak might be sourced, including siding, roofing, doors, masonry, gutters, and decks.

Larry prides himself on being efficient and effective at identifying the source of leaks. According to him, his process is a combination of “common sense, years of experience, and detail-oriented backtracking.” Each leak is a little different, so his inspections can take anywhere from 10 minutes to a couple of days to be certain that the right problem is identified. “Water follows that path of least resistance,” says Larry, “but that path isn’t always obvious.” Once he’s found the leak, Larry takes photos, lots and lots of photos, to show where the problem is located and what conditions will need to be addressed by the team. Sometimes, he will do a spot repair or patch or install a tarp to help prevent further damage. Then it’s back to the office.

It's a Team Effort

Because of his unique skills and mission, Larry works with many of the people on the Exterior Medics team to plan the repair job. For new customers, he will meet with the sales team, and for warranty and maintenance work, he will meet with project managers and property managers. If the problem needs special attention, the owners Mark and Joe may be part of the meeting. So, when Larry says he loves working with the people at Exterior Medics, he is talking about nearly all of us who rely on his expertise in this particular area.

“Larry is fantastic! Professional, acts with integrity, and can give you a big laugh! The Exterior Medics team wouldn't be the same without him.”

- Joe Levecchi, Co-Owner at Exterior Medics

It's the Little Things in Life that Mean the Most

Larry was born and raised in Washington DC, and these days he lives with his family in Woodbridge, Virginia. While he enjoys playing basketball and watching sports, his two daughters are the most important priority in his life. He says he loves spending time with them doing all sorts of activities, including making miniature donuts – a family favorite. When he’s driving to and from inspections, Larry loves listening to music in the car, especially rap.

“We unambiguously trust Mr. Prescott with the most complex, messy projects simply because we know he can easily manage it. He has uncompromisable professionalism.”

- Mark Watson, Co-Owner at Exterior Medics

Asked what he likes about Exterior Medics, Larry quickly replies, “the people.” For him, tracking down mysteries is a constant learning process, and he feels like the team supports him in growing and learning every step of the way. For him, this brings a combination of inspiration, admiration, and motivation to do the best job he can finding the source of the problem every time. Lucky for us, he’s great at his job, and we can be confident in making accurate, complete water leak repairs with Larry on the case.
